| Remarks: | A short description of how the zoom scroller works: Basically it's a simple linecruncher with infinitely stretched sprites in borders, it's the kind of thing used in many demos for plasma effects, zoom scrollers etc. What's different here is that in order to display a new text pixel row the line crunch & sprite zoom is suspended for one line so a bad line occurs, forcing the VIC to fetch new character data (which then include character info as well) and a new sprite row. The character data is stored in awkward locations (due to the line cruncher "eating" rows) so a precomputed table is used The most complicated part was to compute all data required for a new frame. This includes lots of unrolled loops and even then there wasn't sufficient time. This is also why the scroller's height is less than the theoretically possible 200 rows. |
