Easter ? You see in many countries it is indeed called Pascha, but in the west unfortunately there has been an adaptation of calling it Easter. One reason is of course to monetize the holiday as they did with coke santa, sadly. Another, to take meaning away from Christ and out the focus in candy, spring and bunnies.
You see, Eostre, among Germanic pagans was a “goddess” of spring. During the times of conversion, catholic church found it easier to bring these people to their side by allowing them to keep much of their pagan traditions and mix them with Christianity. The sex, rabbits, fertility, spring, eggs. That’s what they celebrated. It actually goes all the way back to Babylon and their “goddess” with similar description, and connects to other pagan cultures, Freya for instance in Norse. Then it transferred to easter bunny in UK and was sponsored by certain rich people to spread.
Pascha however means passover/resurrection. It is rooted in understanding that Christ fulfilled the old covenant and took on our sins and saved us.
On this day we must bring full attention to Christ and His sacrifice and return, just like on Christmas we must focus on His birth.
